Yesterday’s day at the partial hospitalization program helped me to realize just how much I was isolating myself and how unhealthy it has really been so I have added a coping to my toolbox: making phone calls to friends. In the present day with COVID-19 on the forefront of the issues, Zoom and the telephone are ways to reach out. Also, my friend Jim stopped by with the aim of getting this new-to-me PC working so I can play EVE Online. Sadly that was not mission accomplished but it was really great chowing down a pizza and drinking some non-alcoholic brew with one of my best friends. The lack of success notwithstanding, I truly felt better having had the socialization and I lean towards being very comfortable on my own.
After my friend left, I remembered that I had signed up for my twice monthly NAMI Connections meeting. For those unfamiliar, the NAMI Connections is a peer-lead group of people that suffer from mental illness. The format is somewhat similar to the classic 12-step program but without the religious side to it. In fact there are 12 principles by which we agree to abide by as a participant in the meeting. I really like this meeting because it is structured and flows very well. Everybody asked where I had been because I missed the last meeting and it was because I was inpatient at the hospital.
After that meeting, I picked up the phone to call Scott, a friend from college. On a side note, I was his best man at his wedding. I needed to talk to him about helping him move next month so it was good to have a purposeful chat. Finally, I made a call to Steven, a newer acquaintence from the partial hospitalization program just to make certain he was doing okay and he sure was. I am a betting man and I am betting that he will be 12 days sober today. Just chewing the fat back and forth and laughing also did wonders for my mood.
This afternoon I have some errands to run so I am going to hop on the bus to get to the pharmacy and dollar store. My aim is to get these errands done this afternoon, thereby freeing time up to work on WordPress. I would like to at least begin a revamp of my website to make it more of an about me with a blog. I think I might want to do some creative writing and post that. Creative writing has been something I have wanted to do for quite some time.
