Yesterday I got a lot accomplished and I was really happy with the result. I did not expect to land a job after only one day of searching and it looks like I got a job as a roving security guard at the local refinery on Saturday and Sunday. This is exactly what I hoped for so I am happy. I am not ready to dive into the deep end of full-time employment just yet. This gets me going in the right direction.
I also managed to clean my office, get a few things organized, and put in a volunteer shift at Faithful Friends, a local animal shelter. I usually do cat cuddling because it is really relaxing. I spend time in the FelV (Feline Leukemia) cat condo because these poor guys and gals often get overlooked and they are sweet-natured. I spent about half an hour with Harlow, a black FelV+ kitty, and he stole my heart.
I think I am going to have to make some sort of plan to foster him because he is so sweet-natured. Harlow made biscuits on my belly, curled up, and went to sleep; happy as a clam. Harlow deserves a place to live that is not in a cat condo. He needs a large, soft bed that he can sprawl out on and sleep the day away to his heart’s content.
I can only spend so much time at the shelter because it is hard to see so many unwanted and neglected animals. It tests my ability to separate fact from feeling and not get triggered by it. The fact is these cats get excellent care and lots of love from the staff. The cat condos are well stocked with food and water, are climate controlled, and there is a soft instrumental music played. The cats appear relaxed.
Since I got so much accomplished yesterday, today will be kind of a lighter day as I do not have anything that really needs to be done other than trying to reach my DVR counselor again. She is a hard person to pin down. If I can get that done today then I will feel like I have gotten a lot done. I want to get started training for a career in drug and alcohol counseling. I am excited to get started helping people in need the way people helped me when I was in need.
