I Really Got Scammed

I am pissed off because I really got scammed and am now feeling the brunt of it. What’s worse is that there’s nothing I can do until October 15th rolls around. I am on Social Security Disability Insurance and I recently had to choose a Medicare supplement, often called MediGap, because it covers the 20% that Medicare Part B does not. Well, the agent that sold me the plan sold me a really expensive plan and didn’t even take the time to work with me to see what my medical needs were. He just wanted the money. Now I am feeling the pinch.

The pinch is pretty hard because this supplemental plan is costing me 355.00 per month and I am on a fixed income from Social Security Disability. That’s a lot of money and the fucking agent didn’t give a shit. All the agent wanted was to get paid. I never realized that there is a Medicare Advantage plan that would work for all of my medical needs and would’ve cost a fraction of that monthly cost. I could have signed up for the Highmark Medicare Advantage Freedom PPO which would only cost 39.00 per month and given me everything that I need allowing me to keep more of the pittance that I am earning.

I am so angry that I put in a call to this agent’s supervisor and left a message asking for a call back. It’s too late to do anything about it now and everyone got paid at my personal expense and victimization but whatever. At least I can register a complaint and get it off of my chest. I blame myself as well because I know better than to not shop around. I know better than to fall for shit like this. Yet I fell for this “Oh you need the best plan possible because what if ….” Well, I could have gotten a good plan at a much less expensive price.

The first red flag that should have started waving was the fact that my father recommended the insurance agent to me. My father never shops for competitive pricing and never puts in that kind of effort. That’s because he doesn’t understand what poverty is. He grew up on the lower end of the upper class. He had the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. I am seething with anger. The second red flag that should have gone off was the fact that the insurance agent said he does not sell Medicare Advantage plans and does not believe in them. He probably doesn’t sell these plans because he makes a shit commission on them. Well, he got his commission from me and his company got paid. He got paid, I got scammed, and I am caught holding the fucking bag.
