I have been back living on the east coast now since the end of the summer of 2012. In my memory, I cannot remember a summer where we have had at least one major severe thunderstorm per week. In fact, we’ve probably averaged close to 2. It seems as if the weather is becoming more and more extreme as the years are passing and it is concerning me that we still have folks denying that something seriously wrong is happening.
I live in the Mid-Atlantic section of the United States and we have had several days with tropical dewpoints; higher than Miami, Florida. If this is a harbinger of things to come then we are in truly a bad state. That much said, as long as the current administration is in power, the fossil fuel industry is in absolutely no danger of going away when it needs to. It is absolutely crazy because my area is once again under a flash flood watch. We will probably be inundated with maybe an inch of rain inside of a two-hour time window. I am going to call this the Wednesday severe thunderstorm.
If national security is indeed a concern of everyone, then the role that the climate plays cannot be ignored. If climate causes widespread destruction and famine, then unrest could be the logical conclusion. What happens if we start seeing extremes from the polar vortex in the winter? If we have anything to fear at all, it’s a planet that has become “angry” at us fr our own disregard. Nature wants to be in balance and when it is knocked too far off kilter, there is no telling what we will see and what will happen.
