I have now effectively completed my Cisco Certified Network Associate course, and I am sorry to say, has not resulted in the employment promised land. All of my attempts at professional employment in the Information Technology field have resulted in precisely nothing at all. I have applied to at least 50 jobs, had 1 telephone interview, and 1 face to face interview and nothing to show for the effort.
I now realize that I must face the fact that I will not be able to re-enter the field at my age and my employment history. I am thinking that the last two things that I am qualified to do on this earth are be a security guard or drive a a truck of some sort. I am licensed in two states to work as a security guard. It is a shame that security guards and officers are paid so poorly and given so little respect. But at least the work is easy, I guess.
I also applied to be an armored car guard because it might lead to something better in terms of employment because it would mean having my security license upgraded to a commissioned one. Possession of a commissioned license means a little bit more money. It’s a shame that I do not have the money to do the upgrade myself or I would.
I think I have to face my fate because I am just a 40 something in the surplus labor pool. It is not great place to be in because members of this pool of labor are often forced to take whatever they can. This seems to be my present status. I hope that come Monday I get a call back from one of the security jobs that I applied to today. It would be good to at least start some job.
