This blog posting is going to come off as somewhat prejudicial but it represents my frustrating experience. I put my resume up on Indeed and it seems like it’s hit the radar of every Indian IT recruiter out in cyberspace. Not one single solitary time has an Indian recruiter ever netted me so much as a telephone interview with any company. They’re long on promises and short on follow-up. In fact, follow-up calls and emails go unreturned and unanswered.
I’ve been contacted by several that have emailed me job descriptions that say “4-6 month contract” On whim I decided to use Google to perform a search on the verbiage of the job. It turns out these Indian recruiters have simply copied job descriptions verbatim from major corporations. And these jobs are not contract, they’re full time direct hire positions. I am guessing these recruiters just try to throw up enough proverbial shit in the hope that something sticks and they get paid.
I’ve become so soured by India IT Recruitment, Inc, that I simply tell the recruiter I am not interested. Then they have the gall to ask me if I know anybody else. I actually asked one recruiter, “Why should I help you when you haven’t done anything for me? The job description that you gave me was verbatim from a direct hire.” To that end, he just disconnected the call. I am sure there are some Indian recruiters out there that are honest Unfortunately, it takes only a few dishonest folks to ruin it for the good ones.
Just yesterday, I had 10 calls from Indian IT staffing recruiters that have no jobs and are just collecting resumes. It’s so bad that if the person has an Indian accent, I simply say, “I am not interested. Have a good day.” The funny thing is that I had this very same experience 12 years ago and I am intrigued to see that nothing really has changed. It’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I really hate dealing with recruiters but I will deal with recruiters that are based in the US and are legitimate contract houses vetted through reliable sources. I won’t even give an Indian contract house the time of day. I am tired of being a data collection point for unscrupulous people.
